Christmas Mini - Styling Guide
This years set ups
Which look will you be going for?
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holiday season is upon us, and we are ready to celebrate.
Growing up, I remember the excitement of Christmas Eve and not wanting to go to sleep. The giddy feeling of waking up extra early Christmas morning, jumping in my parents bed at 6am. Because, hello, Santa has been to visit…how are they not awake yet? Now, I get the same excited feeling of getting to watch the joy of the season through my own kid's eyes.
This time of year also means family pictures. You’re likely planning parties, cooking lots of food, shopping for special gifts for your loved ones. You’ve got enough on your plate. So, we took the stress out of planning the perfect outfits. We’ve put together a few examples to make styling for your family photos a breeze. Whether you want to dress more traditional or choose a muted color palette, all of the options will photograph beautifully!

Some outfit pointers that are good for anytime you’re having photos taken!
- Pick a color pallet that you like (search Pinterest for color pallet ideas. They are amazing for that!)
- A “coordinated look” is the way to go
- Don’t be afraid to dress it up! You can never go wrong with a touch of fancy in your photos, and you certainly won’t regret saying yes to a dress! Dresses and skirts look most stunning because they really flatter every female body, especially on camera — which is probably why the red carpet is always full of so many dresses and not very many pantsuits!
- Be careful with patterns (though you don’t have to completely avoid them). While we love a little pattern mixing, try to think more texture and less pattern
- Accessorise, baby! Accessories add extra dimension to your images and can be a nice tie-in when you’re coordinating with a group. Big statement necklaces bring a lot of pop to the photos, and belts, bracelets and earrings bring great visual interest. Choose one or two that don’t compete for attention!
- Let each individual be unique and more true to their own personality!
Dress It Up
What better reason than to dress up and feel pretty than for Christmas photos!? A dress, some shorts or dress pants and a nice button up shirt always looks fantastic. Just keep in mind that you want to look like you are all attending the same event. If one of you is going a bit more glam then you all should. Don’t stress too much about shoes as we often find it easier and more comfortable to take them off

Matchy Matchy
Who doesn’t love a tacky matching Christmas photos! Normally we would recommend not having everyone wearing the same outfit for photos but for Christmas Minis this can be lots of fun. Shops like Kmart, Big W, Target, and Pat Pat often have matching family Christmas outfits

Keep it Simple
Sometimes keeping it simple can be the best. Jeans and a plain t-shirt can also look great. Plain colours can work well together and might make you feel the most comfortable. We recommend staying away from big logos and branding

Christmas Outfits
If you’re like us you love a good Christmas outfit! And if you can’t wear them for Christmas photos what is the point. They don’t have to be matching but we do recommend that they work together and don’t clash and make the photo too busy. We want you to be the main focus of your images. This is where those Christmas jumpers and cute Christmas pjs come in handy

Think About Colour
Think about the colours you select to wear. This year we have two gorgeous new Christmas set ups one being our festive Christmas Cookie Baking Scene and the other a simple yet gorgeous Snow and Greenery Set Up. White, green and red always look fantastic in Christmas photos. This year we also think browns, navy and creams can look great.

You are welcome to use both Christmas theme set ups and you can always bring a second outfit along if you wanted to match each outfit to each set up. Please keep in mind though that we do only have 20 minutes and using both set ups or changing outfits will completely depend on time
